The first 6-8 weeks in school can predict their ultimate success and whether they graduate or not. Four data points in particular:
- class attendance
- homework/assignment completion
- quiz scores
- the first test score
What if we had a mentor work with every Education group grad intensely for the first 8 weeks of school to help them make and keep commitments around those 4 data points?
we are currently working on an idea to have all students who enrol in the same university and in the same programme attend a tutorial group mentored by PEF loan recipients who are also in the same programme but are in their last year so they can provide peer and tutorial support to the new students.
We could start this process by requiring that the PEF mentor sign the loan plan worksheet rather than the facilitator. This would help to start the dialogue and mentoring process before school starts (or at least before the loan starts.)
There's also been a few Areas that have mentioned giving an assessment / evaluation to PEF participants, prior to them choosing a career from the Preferred List. Perhaps these two suggestions go hand-in-hand.
