In our ward, we have proactively approached each family to assess their financial position and have learned that many of our "self reliant" families are amongst the "poor and needy." Many of them live paycheck to paycheck with no thought of savings. A single loss of income incident will immediately put them in line with needing Church assistance. We have been successful in helping nearly 20 families in the paycheck to paycheck category, and have hence put them on a different track which enables them to fully serve the Church now and also in the future.
